“Tourism offers incredible potential. It strengthens PEI by generating jobs, boosting our economy, and enriching the lives of Islanders. Every festival, conference, sporting event, and Islander contributes to tourism’s success, creating a brighter future for PEI.”
— Corryn Clemence, CEO TIAPEI

Tourism on PEI: Building a Stronger PEI for Islanders

Tourism is more than just beaches and summer festivals. It’s the hockey and ringette tournaments that bring families together, conferences that generate economic activity, and festivals that light up the off-season. These events don’t just create unforgettable experiences for Islanders and our visitors; they also generate year-round provincial tax revenue that funds critical services like healthcare, education, and public transit.

Tourism isn’t just an industry—it’s the backbone of the services Islanders rely on. From better healthcare to stronger education systems and improved infrastructure, none of this would be possible without the provincial tax revenue tourism generates.

Supporting tourism is supporting PEI. It’s an investment in stronger communities, better services, and a thriving Island for all of us.

The Impact of Tourism

Tourism touches every corner of PEI and fuels essential services Islanders rely on:

  • Funds Vital Services: $88 million in provincial tax revenue from visitor spending funds critical initiatives like recruiting doctors, school lunch programs, and the tip-to-tip public transit system.
  • Creates Jobs: Tourism employs 1 in 10 Islanders, offering many their first jobs and building futures through career opportunities.
  • World-Class Experiences: PEI’s arts, culture, festivals, and restaurants are sustained by millions of visitors each year. Their spending ensures these offerings remain available year-round, giving Islanders access to exceptional dining and entertainment even in the off-season.
  • Drives Growth Across the Island: From rural communities to urban centers, tourism creates opportunities from tip to tip.

How Islanders Can Support Tourism

Tourism enriches our Island, but its success depends on all of us. Here’s how Islanders can make a difference:

  1. Encourage Hosting: Suggest PEI as a destination for conferences, tournaments, or family reunions.
  2. Support Investments in Tourism: Advocate for funding and initiatives that grow PEI’s tourism industry. An investment in tourism means better roads, better healthcare, better education, and a better future for all Islanders.
  3. Participate: Attend local festivals, concerts, and sporting events year-round.
  4. Dine, Stay, and Explore Local: Support and recommend Island restaurants, accommodations, and attractions, especially during the off-season.
  5. Volunteer: Help out at events to build community spirit while having fun and making connections.
  6. Be an Advocate: Share your great local experiences online and encourage positive word-of-mouth.
