Prince Edward Island invites everyone to celebrate the 150th birthday of its most beloved literary icon, L. M. Montgomery, the world-renowned author of “Anne of Green Gables.” From quaint villages to bustling towns, the island is coming together to honor the top-selling children’s author of all time with a series of festivities that promise to rediscover the magic of her world. LM Montgomery was born November 30, 1874 in Clifton, PEI.

Central Coastal Tourism and Tourism Cavendish Beach have joined forces with local individuals and businesses to present a plethora of activities extending well into the fall. This collaboration pays homage to Montgomery’s enduring legacy through special events and activities that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Highlights of the celebrations include:

The celebrations kick off with a special event on June 29th at Avonlea Village – “Raising Her Voice: Celebrating 150 Years of L. M. Montgomery.” This event will feature live art, live music, a Cavendish-inspired food hike, and more!

“This milestone celebration is a wonderful opportunity to honour L. M. Montgomery’s incredible contributions to literature and highlight the cultural richness of Prince Edward Island,” said Darcy Butler, Executive Director of Tourism Cavendish Beach. “Montgomery loved and appreciated Prince Edward Island as it should be. We are so grateful for her courage, determination and passion that is so evident in all of her works. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating her legacy and exploring the beautiful island that inspired her timeless stories.”

These events were funded in part by the Government of Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island, the Cavendish Destination Management Fund, and the Cavendish Resort Municipality with organizational support by the Central Coastal Tourism Partnership and Tourism Cavendish Beach.
