Global Meetings Industry Day Celebrates The Impact of Business Events on PEI

April 2, 2025 – Charlottetown, PEI — In collaboration with partners across Prince Edward Island, Meet PEI invites Prince Edward Island business and government leaders to join in the celebration of Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on April 3, 2025.

Global Meetings Industry Day is an annual day of advocacy highlighting the significant economic impact generated by business events, conferences, trade shows, and incentive travel on the tourism sector. Each year, Prince Edward Island’s business events sector contributes an average of $23 million in direct economic impact, extending the tourism season with nearly 90% of business events occurring outside the peak summer season.

The impact of business events extends beyond immediate economic benefits. These national and international events showcase PEI’s expertise in key industries including agribusiness, aquaculture, and biosciences, attracting global leaders in these fields and fostering future investment and talent acquisition opportunities for the province.

To mark Global Meetings Industry Day, the Meet PEI team are hosting a reception in Halifax for Atlantic Canadian meeting planners after the morning’s GMID event hosted by Meeting Professionals International’s (MPI) Atlantic Canada Chapter. In addition, several Meet PEI partners across the island including the PEI Convention Centre, Charlottetown City Hall, and The Holman Grand Hotel will all “Light Up Blue” on April 3rd in solidarity with the industry.

Social Media Toolkit and Fact Sheet
In recognition of GMID, Meet PEI has put together a toolkit with a fact sheet and social media graphics to celebrate the importance of in-person meetings and business events. Leaders from Prince Edward Island’s government, academic, and business communities are invited to use this toolkit to post on social media and celebrate the
business events sector’s incredible impact on both the provincial and national level. The toolkit can be downloaded at this link.
