National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Orange Shirt Day

As we approach Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous PEI invites businesses to lead by example, supporting Epekwitk (PEI) Indigenous artists and communities. By participating in Orange Shirt Day, you can make a meaningful impact, while also helping to raise awareness about the legacy of residential schools in Canada.

In addition to the signature orange shirts, Indigenous PEI offers a wide range of artisan-made products that can meet your organization’s budget. Our Orange Shirt-themed items include beadwork, bracelets, magnets, stickers, and more—all designed and crafted by local Indigenous artists.

Why Orange Shirt Day Matters

Orange Shirt Day is more than just wearing orange; it’s a powerful day of reflection and a call to action. The day commemorates the enduring impact of Canada’s residential school system on Indigenous communities. The orange shirt symbolizes Phyllis Webstad’s experience, whose new orange shirt was taken from her on her first day at St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School—representing the loss and trauma experienced by many Indigenous children.
Join us in wearing orange to honor survivors, their families, and communities, while affirming our collective commitment to reconciliation.
