Parks Canada Welcomes all for 2025 Summer Season

Prince Edward Island National Park entry gates, beaches, day-use areas, trails and washroom facilities will be open for the public to enjoy as of June 4. The Greenwich Interpretation Centre will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June 4 to September 1. There will be interpretive programming offered in all areas of the park again this year, with a variety of educational and cultural activities in store. For full details, please visit parks.canada.ca/pei-activities.

New this year, Stanhope Campground will be open longer into the fall. Stanhope Campground and Cavendish Campground will both be open from June 10 to September 21. There is a new Bunkie accommodation at Stanhope Campground as well, bringing the total number of Bunkies available to eight, with three in Stanhope and five in Cavendish. Reservations for campsites, oTENTiks and Bunkies can be made by visiting reservation.pc.gc.ca or by calling 1-877-737-3783.

Visitors in the Brackley-Dalvay section of the park can enjoy new infrastructure, with a new dune crossing in place at Shaw’s Beach and an improved beach access point at Stanhope Cape Beach. Additionally, Stanhope Cape Beach will have an expanded parking lot with approximately 50 new spaces for vehicles.

Surf guard supervision will begin on June 27 at Brackley and Cavendish beaches, and on June 30 at Greenwich and Stanhope beaches. New for the 2025 season, there will be a new ban on the use of pool floaties in the water at all Prince Edward Island National Park beaches. Beachgoers should be aware of the following details:

  • “Pool floaties” refers to any items that are inflated with air and used to hold up a person’s body weight in the water. For example, loungers, inner tubes, blow-up furniture and other recreational items are not permitted.
  • Swimming aids for small children, such as water wings, life jackets/personal floatation devices, and “puddle jumpers,” are permitted, as long as an adult accompanies the wearer and remains within an arm’s length of the child at all times.

Since 2019, over 50% of water rescues at Prince Edward Island National Park beaches have involved pool floaties, which highlights the disproportionate risk they pose. This ban is by order of the superintendent and is in place to ensure a safer experience for all. Violators will be subject to a minimum fine of $150.

Green Gables Heritage Place, including the grounds, trails, visitor centre and iconic Green Gables farmhouse is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 1 to October 31. Daily interpretive programming begins July 1 and runs until September 2. For a full schedule and programming descriptions, please visit parks.canada.ca/gg-activities.

The grounds and trails at Skmaqn—Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst National Historic Site are open for visitors to explore. The visitor reception centre will be staffed Friday to Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 1 to August 29, and the day-use washroom facilities on the site will be open seven days a week from June 13 to September 1. There will be Mi’kmaw heritage programming on site this summer as well, with activities offered at the wigwam on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., from July 5 to August 30. Admission is free.

Parks Canada is proud to contribute to Canada’s world-class tourism offer and looks forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to Parks Canada-administered sites on Prince Edward Island during the 2025 season.
