Parks Canada Stakeholder Update – Roof work at Green Gables House

October, 21, 2024

Parks Canada would like to inform you of some important maintenance work happening at Green Gables Heritage Place in October and November.

Chimney work will take place at the house starting on October 21. Between October 21 and 31 the house will remain open daily from 9am to 5pm, but visitors should be aware that there will be scaffolding in place on the side of the house, workers will be on the roof, and there will be some noise from the construction.

Starting on November 4, Parks Canada will begin replacing the current Green Gables house roof, which will maintain the current style and require much less maintenance over the years to come. This work will involve scaffolding and some noise, and it will be ongoing until the end of December. Green Gables will still be open by special appointment from November 1 to 30, so visitors who plan to visit at that time will be informed of this maintenance work taking place.

Parks Canada appreciates the patience and cooperation of visitors and stakeholders as we work on these important infrastructure upgrades, which will help ensure that visitors can enjoy this special site for many years to come.
