Call for Artists: Two Public Art Opportunities in Summerside

  1. Permanent Public Art Opportunity for Mi’kmaq Artists

In partnership with Lennox Island First Nation, L’nuey, and Downtown Summerside, the City of Summerside seeks proposals from First Nations Mi’kmaq artists to create a permanent public art piece. This public artwork will be prominently displayed in Summerside’s downtown district.

  • Location: Downtown Summerside (Waterfront or Water Street)
  • Proposal Deadline: February 28, 2025
  • Notification of Selection: March 11, 2025
  • Installation: October 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to First Nations artists of Mi’kmaq heritage (emerging to professional levels).

The selected artist will collaborate with project partners to determine the specific location of the installation within the downtown area.

  1. Temporary Public Art Opportunity

The City of Summerside, in partnership with Downtown Summerside, invites proposals for a temporary public art project to be showcased in a prominent downtown location.

  • Theme: Water (explorations of the theme could include movement, transformation, sustainability, and/ or Summerside’s relationship with the sea).
  • Location: Downtown Summerside (Waterfront or Water Street)
  • Proposal Deadline: January 31, 2025
  • Exhibition Dates: June 16 – October 23, 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to all artists working in mediums suitable for temporary outdoor display, with special consideration for those connected to Summerside/Prince Edward Island.
