Meet Auhlicia Sands of the Hotel on Pownal

Auhlicia is a valued member of the hotel’s team and has significantly impacted those she works with and those who stayed there over the last two years.

Growing up in a country heavily dependent on tourism, Auhlicia recognized the significance of travel in people’s lives. This realization inspired her to pursue a career in the tourism industry. Drawn by the opportunity to explore new places and cultures, Auhlicia decided to study at Holland College, specializing in hotel management. Her education gave her a solid foundation, and she quickly found her calling in the hotel industry.

Auhlicia cherishes the friendly and warm interactions she has with guests. She also enjoyed the team’s regular Treat Thursdays, where the staff are treated and have to opportunity to catch up and get to know one another better.

In her role, Auhlicia has found certain skills to be vital. Effective communication tops the list, allowing her to connect with guests and colleagues seamlessly. Being a team player is also crucial, as collaboration is key to providing exceptional service.

Auhlicia wholeheartedly believes that people should consider working in the tourism industry in PEI. The warm and welcoming nature of the Island’s residents creates a comfortable and inclusive work environment. And the rich culture, heritage and beauty of the Island make PEI an ideal place for individuals seeking unique experiences.

Auhlicia finds inspiration in her mother, who has been a constant source of support and motivation. Her mother’s resilience and unwavering determination have instilled in Auhlicia the drive to always strive for excellence and never give up.

When Auhlicia is not working, she can often be found in downtown Charlottetown exploring places like Founders Hall and the Marin.
